Understanding the Musk/Trump Dream Team and What It Means for Americans

On March 15, 2023, 17-year-old Tillman Mitchell had just stepped off the yellow school bus that brought him home each day to Hollister, North Carolina. The warm glow of porch lights and the arms of his mother awaited him across the street.
But before he could reach the other side, a 2022 Tesla Model Y barreled through the scene, ignoring the bus’s stop arm and safety signals. The self-driving car struck Tillman with devastating force. The Tesla that hit him was in autopilot mode.
Tillman was airlifted to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. Miraculously, after extensive surgery, Tillman survived.
The crash marks yet another entry in a growing ledger of accidents involving Tesla’s partially automated driving systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has since launched an investigation into why Tesla’s Autopilot features often fail to detect pedestrians, emergency vehicles, or, in this instance, a big ole’ honking school bus.
