Trump (and Mussolini) Are Right About Everything
Trump has stolen many fascist slogans. This one is his favorite for a reason.
I recently made the mistake of poking one of my MAGA relatives on social media. Said relative proudly posted a selfie wearing one of those dumbass red hats embroidered with the words: “Trump Was Right About Everything.”
I had one snarky reply: “So were Mussolini’s Fascists. How did that work out?”
Yes, I know. I should stop baiting them. I should also stop eating tortilla chips directly over my laptop keyboard. My stuck D key tells me I never learn.
Naturally, my relative shot back with a three-paragraph screed about how Democrats need to stop calling Republicans fascists. Blah, blah, blah. I responded, “Well, then stop stealing fascist slogans.” My relative continued to argue.
And that’s when it hit me: He had no idea that the slogan he was crowing about wasn’t MAGA-born at all. It was Benito Mussolini’s.
Back in the 1920s, Italian journalist Leo Longanesi coined the phrase “Mussolini ha sempre ragione” — Mussolini is always right. Just like Trump, he meant it as a joke.
