My last children's book was a diversity book. It was banned throughout Texas, Florida, and several other conservative states. Why? I had the audacity to talk about Jim Crow laws. My publisher (who shall remain nameless but was big enough to stand their ground) dropped my book after it was banned.

The public has no idea how frequently this happens. I am still agented, but I left publishing after this incident. I came to the determination that books were no longer the place to educate kids. If authors want to fight back, they must reach the younger audience through (ugh) TikTok and other internet platforms.

Another one of my books is on the Scholastic Book Fair list. It has not been banned. I commend Scholastic for standing their ground.
