I agree with everything you have written, especially on the unpredictability of dating norms. The internet age has changed the way couples interact too and we have not see this kind of upheaval since the agricultural age. I just can't see successful, educated women "settling." I see the criteria changing and leaning toward choosing empathetic men.

Of course, another problem is some men who make less money than women might feel emasculated by them too. I hope not. Time will tell...
